"Any sort of cinematic extravagance is eschewed in favor of character moments that make these centuries-old figures feel wholly real and relatable." Perfectly sums up the film.
I have heard of The Reluctant Saint but didn't know much about it. I checked and saw that my favorite movie critic, a Catholic deacon named Steven Greydanus, wrote an essay on the film for the Ignatius Press DVD booklet (http://www.decentfilms.com/articles/reluctantsaint). Now I am motivated to see it. Thank you sir.

I loved that Ricardo Montalban was in this film. It helped me identify with the seriousness of the monks versus the childlike playfulness of Guiseppe.

P.S. Deacon Greydanus also has a Substack: https://open.substack.com/pub/greydanus?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=3ulcqv. There's my plug for him. 🙂
