I can't usually handle much horror or thriller now with my fibromyalgia more advanced (stress to my nervous system), but I'm glad I was able to enjoy and appreciate this film when it released. The one daughter's being Deaf as a feature was one of my favorite aspects of the script. I also love how beautifully and powerfully the mother's maternal instincts were displayed.
A great film and one that is even greater seen through a Catholic filter. I think Bp Baron made this connection (I won’t take the credit) that the father is called Ben - Benedict - who preserved civilization in the dark age; also that in silence we see things with more clarity - very much in the spirit of St Benedict. My own feeling as well was that the ending was a perfect reflection of ‘greater love than this hath no man’.
Great insight, thanks for sharing, Martin. Speaking of Bishop Barron, he draws another parallel that I thought was really fascinating, namely as Evelyn is giving birth and the monster is lurking right beside her, Barron points to Revelation 12:4 “Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth”

I don’t know if I can handle the film but I loved reading your thoughts on it!

I love monsters movies, and if this isn’t the best one I’ve ever seen, it’s certainly one of the most wholesome-hearted ones
YES!!! So good! This is my favorite article yet, and such a great film.
