Enjoyed this review. We discovered this on a list of Christmas movies, funnily enough! (Don’t watch jt hoping for a holiday feel good flick!) Very moving portrayal of grown men laying their lives down for a baby. So perhaps it is a Christmas movie…
I discovered this movie "backwards." After watching the animated Japanese movie Tokyo Godfathers I discovered it was a tribute to Ford's 3 Godfathers, which I'd never heard of. Needless to say, I loved it.
Speaking of Japanese films, the legendary director Akira Kurosawa was influenced by American westerns, particularly John Ford's. In turn, a couple of his samurai movies were remade into westerns (Seven Samurai into The Magnificent Seven; Yojimbo into A Fistful of Dollars).
I haven't seen 3 Godfathers but I know of it. I guess I should get around to watching it someday. One of Ford's notable movies that wasn't mentioned in this fine article was The Informer. Based on its ending, I am betting it will be on this list.
I always love seeing how one director influences another. Or "comments" on another movie such as Howard Hawks and John Wayne using Rio Bravo to push back at Hogh Noon.

I normally avoid westerns, but you have peaked my interest with this review. Thank you very much!
Thanks for the review; I'd never heard of this film but I look forward to seeing it.
