The Naked Gun (2025)

By Charles Scott

As a big fan of the original trilogy and the Police Squad TV show, I was highly skeptical about seeing modern Hollywood attempt its own take on the Zucker brothers' comedy. While films like Airplane, The Naked Gun, and Top Secret could be crass at times, they never failed to make me laugh frequently, and always had a good heart. They were so jam-packed with jokes that you never had time to consider if one landed or not, as you were still trying to recover from the joke that did land. The original Naked Gun in particular is one of my favorite comedies, poking fun at all the tropes of the cop shows I grew up with. So, seeing that the 21st century was going to attempt to follow up this hilarious trilogy with another installment, I automatically assumed the worst. When the reviews started coming in, however, they painted a different picture, and I decided I had to see it for myself, and I am pleased to say that fans of the originals will have a blast with this.
