Excellent film analysis! Thanks for reminding me of this gem. It has simply stunning sequences (especially the longboarding in Iceland) and is beautifully profound. Will be sure to re-watch it soon:)

It's a nice film, one of my personal favourites. As you've articulated it reveals the extraordinary in the ordinary - a celebration of devotional care and attention to detail of the master craftsman in the context of the ordinary and mundane. Very much part of the inspiration for my own Substack. It also inspired me to take up longboarding, age 50 - I'd love to take a trip to Iceland and recreate that longboard scene...
